Furnaces

furnace A well functioning furnace is the key to surviving Michigan winters.
Furnaces are relatively simple; they draw air in from the living space, heat it up and then disperse it back throughout the home.  Forced air systems are modern furnaces and they come in the following configurations:

      – Up-flow furnaces are placed in homes with basements;
      – Horizontal flow furnaces are designed for homes with crawl spaces;
      – Down-flow furnaces are for homes built on concrete slabs.

ENERGY STAR qualified oil and gas furnaces have annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) ratings of 85% and 90%, or greater, making them up to 15% more efficient than standard models.

A programmable thermostat is ideal for people who are away from home during set periods of time throughout the week to save energy cost. Through proper use of pre-programmed settings, a programmable thermostat can save you about $180 every year.

As with all HVAC systems, air filtration is critical to effective heating. Make sure you change filters often and have your furnace professionally serviced on a regular basis to maintain your heating system performance.
